Provincial Government Funding Provides Upgrades to Paradise Park
The Peter Barry Duff Memorial Park in Paradise will have some new bleachers
soon thanks to a $15,000 grant provided by the Provincial Government’s
Community Capital Grant Program.
“These new bleachers will be a welcome addition to this popular community
park,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and
Recreation. “This green space is a great location for a variety of sports,
recreation, and physical activities. Maintaining high quality sports and
recreation facilities is vital to achieving the goals of the province’s
recreation and sport strategy,
Active Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador.”
The Peter Barry Duff Memorial Park Development Commission is among the many
community-based organizations, municipalities, schools and recreation
commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport
infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.
“I am delighted that our government continues to boost recreation and sport
in our communities,” said the Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of
Transportation and Works and MHA for Topsail. “The Peter Barry Duff Memorial
Park is a highly-used facility and the new bleachers will be a very welcome
addition.”
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future provides $7.7 million to support
recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the provincial
sport and recreation strategy, approximately $172 million has been committed
to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete
development throughout the province.
