New Zamboni for Town of Fortune

Fortune Arena will soon benefit from a new Zamboni with support from a $15,000 grant through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program.

“We are pleased to assist the town with the purchase of this much needed ice resurfacing equipment,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Residents and community groups rely on the use of this facility for fun recreational activities and participation in sports, so it is important to make investments that ensure the arena will continue to meet their needs.”

The Fortune Ice Resurfacing Team Committee (FIRST) is among the many community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.

“I am delighted to work with the FIRST committee in securing the necessary funding to assist with replacing the current Zamboni which is over 30 years old,” said the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Justice and MHA for Grand Bank. “The Fortune Arena is a valuable recreation facility for the region and today’s announcement will enhance the ice conditions for the many users of all ages.”

As part of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador, launched 2007, Budget 2012 provided $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province.
