Upcoming Dart Championships Will Feature New Equipment
The participants of the 2013 National Dart Championships and World Cup of Darts – both being held in St. John’s – will benefit from a $15,000 grant through the Provincial Government’s Community Capital Grant Program to assist with the purchase of new equipment.
“The Provincial Government is pleased to support the Newfoundland and Labrador Dart Association as they prepare for these exciting and prestigious competitions,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “These competitions will generate enthusiasm and promote greater participation in recreational darts throughout the province, and I wish all the competitors the best of luck.”
The Newfoundland and Labrador Darts Association is among the many community-based organizations, municipalities, schools, and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest capital grant program investments.
“I am glad to support these events, which are expected to bring up to 1,500 visitors to the city,” said Dan Crummell, MHA for St. John’s West. “The city will benefit greatly from the economic spin offs that will be generated.”
As part of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador, launched 2007, Budget 2012 provided $8.6 million to support recreation and sport in the province.
