New Climbing Wall Unveiled at Easter Seals House

Young persons with disabilities will have access to a new and fun recreational activity with the unveiling of a rock climbing wall at the Husky Energy Easter Seals House in St. John’s today. The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, was on hand to participate in the ceremonial ribbon cutting.

“With this new addition to the Easter Seals headquarters, many children have been provided an opportunity to enjoy the challenge and sense of achievement involved with rock climbing,” said Minister French. “The Provincial Government was pleased to contribute $10,000 to the construction of this wall, as it promotes youth development and emphasizes the importance of physical activity and healthy living.”

Easter Seals Newfoundland and Labrador is a charitable organization that is dedicated to maximizing the abilities and enhancing the lives of children and youth with physical disabilities through recreational, social and other therapeutic programs, direct assistance, education and advocacy. Executive Director Mark Lane was the Master of Ceremonies for the ribbon cutting event.

“On behalf of Easter Seals Newfoundland and Labrador, I want to thank the Provincial Government and the United Way for their generous contributions to this project,” said Mr. Lane. “Easter Seals is committed to breaking down barriers and maximizing the abilities of children with physical disabilities, and this project is another example of how we are doing that.”
