Provincial Basketball Teams Compete in Ontario

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association will be sending three teams from the 2013 High Performance Midget Program to Ottawa to compete this weekend (February 21-24). The teams will compete in the Gloucester Wolverines Boys Invitational Basketball Tournament with 16 other clubs from the region.

Teams are comprised of athletes from the east and west coast training pods in the hope of making the final team that will represent the province at the 2013 National Championship, which will take place in St. John’s this August. The teams will play clubs in the Ottawa region who compete in Midget AA and Midget AAA events. Teams start the competition on Friday afternoon and conclude Sunday afternoon with the finals.

Head Coach Blair White is looking forward to the competition, and to measuring the progress of the athletes over the past 18 months. Final selections for the program will take place during Easter week at the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Centre in St. John’s.
