Black Duck Siding Man Sentenced for Public Safety Violations
Service NL announced today that a 45-year-old man from Black Duck Siding was
sentenced Friday, July 19, in Corner Brook Provincial Court, upon pleading
guilty to violations of the
Public Safety Act and Electrical Regulations.
The case arose as the result of an investigation by the Corner Brook
Government Service Centre of Service NL.
In December 2012, the Corner Brook Government Service Centre investigated
electrical work done on new residential developments in Black Duck Siding.
The investigation identified the person responsible and two charges for an
unqualified person doing electrical work were laid under the
Public Safety
Act.
In January 2013, a complaint was received from a resident of Stephenville
regarding concerns with an electrical contractor. An investigation
determined that the electrical work completed was again done by the same
unqualified person who conducted work in Black Duck Siding. The
investigation resulted in one charge for an unqualified person doing
electrical work under the
Public Safety Act.
A plea agreement resulted in two charges, with the third charge being
withdrawn. The two charges relate to an unqualified person conducting
electrical work under section 4(1)(a) of the Electrical Regulations and
section 36(1)(a) of the
Public Safety Act. The court order requires the man
to pay fines totalling $1,200.
Service NL advises that every qualified electrician who is conducting
electrical work in the province is required to be registered with Service NL
and will have a registration card containing their registration number.
