Program to Support Business Reaches Important Milestone

BizPaL, an online business permit and licence service, is now serving 50 communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The most recent community to join is Campbellton, Notre Dame Bay. In the last year, 12 new communities have joined the service which provides business owners and prospective entrepreneurs with simplified, one-stop access to information on the permits, licences and other approvals required by all levels of government, whether they are already running a business or starting a new one.

“I am pleased to see so many new communities sign on to the BizPaL service as it is a tremendous asset to entrepreneurs in Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister of Service NL. “It is vital in helping our province’s business owners reduce red tape as it saves them valuable time and improves business planning for all entrepreneurs in Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Since the Provincial Government launched the program in 2009 in three communities, BizPaL has grown to include 50 communities across the province, representing over 72 per cent of the population. The 12 new communities to join in the last year are Badger, Centreville-Wareham-Trinity, Gambo, Musgrave Harbour, Musgravetown, Placentia, Port Saunders, Rocky Harbour, St. Alban’s, Summerford, Whitbourne and Campbellton.

“The Town of Campbellton is happy to partner with the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador through BizPaL” said Maisie Clark, Mayor of Campbellton. “Being a small town with limited marketing funds, we feel this will be very good for potential residential and business development in our area.”

Through a unique partnership with federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments, BizPaL offers access to information related to doing business in Newfoundland and Labrador. Service NL supports the participation of municipalities from all areas of the province by working with municipalities to help define their requirements and have them entered into the BizPaL system, at no cost to these communities.

“BizPaL has helped many entrepreneurs in Newfoundland and Labrador start up successful businesses in this province,” said Minister McGrath. “Service NL is proud to offer and continue this valuable program for businesses as it is an excellent marketing tool for attracting business investment to our communities.”
