Public Reminded to Stay Safe During Holiday Weekend

Many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians will be travelling to their favourite vacation spots this long weekend. With increased traffic on highways, Service NL is reminding motorists to drive safely and defensively.

“With the Canada Day long weekend upon us, it’s wonderful to see the excitement and enthusiasm of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians as they get ready to enjoy their plans,” said the Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister of Service NL. “Whether heading out over the highway to the cabin, to visit relatives, or to one of our province’s vibrant tourism destinations, road safety has to be top of mind at all times.”

Motorists should remember the following tips:

As well, people should also keep safety in mind while operating ATVs. All users should wear helmets and children under 16 years of age are prohibited from operating a full-size ATV.

“We all recognize the importance of driving safely, and staying safe when we arrive at our destinations,” said Minister McGrath. “Please take the time to stay safe, have fun, and enjoy the Canada Day weekend.”
