Minister Encourages Public to Consider Good Road Safety Practices

Safe driving habits should be uppermost in the minds of residents as they prepare for the upcoming Victoria Day long weekend and make plans to head to their favourite vacation spots over the summer, noted the Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister of Service NL, today as he acknowledged Road Safety Week. This national awareness week, which runs until May 18, is dedicated to making Canada’s roads the safest in the world.

“I encourage all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to enjoy the upcoming long weekend by visiting some of the high quality tourism destinations our province has to offer,” said Minister McGrath. “As we travel to our favourite summer holiday locations we need to be aware of and practice safe driving habits and Road Safety Week reminds us to look for ways to improve those driving habits. All road users have a responsibility to consider others when venturing out onto our roads and highways.”

Service NL reminds drivers of responsible driving practices:

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, along with Highway Enforcement Officers of Service NL, will be participating in enforcement activities and road checks across the province during Road Safety Week to ensure drivers pay attention to safe driving practices.
