Province Partners with Other Atlantic Provinces for Vehicle Procurement

Newfoundland and Labrador has made an arrangement through a request for proposals process to work with the Provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick to jointly purchase light-duty vehicles.

“By working with our Atlantic Canadian partners, we can achieve savings through strategic purchasing opportunities,” said the Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister of Service NL and Minister Responsible for the Government Purchasing Agency. “We already have an Atlantic Procurement Agreement in place and it makes sense to explore options through that agreement that will result in significant savings for taxpayers.”

Under the Atlantic Procurement Agreement, the Atlantic Provinces work together to reduce and eliminate, as much as possible, barriers to the free movement of persons, goods, services, and construction within Atlantic Canada and to establish an open, efficient, and stable domestic market.

A request for proposals has been issued for Canadian auto manufacturers to participate through their local dealers. As part of this agreement, Newfoundland and Labrador will be able to acquire vehicles under a common pricing model that takes advantage of the combined vehicle volumes, while still ensuring local dealers continue to supply and service Newfoundland and Labrador vehicles.

“We will continue to look for other similar opportunities in the future and we look forward to working with our Atlantic partners in this endeavour,” said Minister McGrath.
