Investigation Results in Occupational Health and Safety Charges for Avondale Company

Service NL announced today that C. B. Metal Works Inc. has been charged with violations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations in relation to an incident that occurred in March, 2011. The charges are the result of an investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Branch.

The incident occurred at the construction site of a long-term care facility in Pleasantville and involved a steelworker who fell approximately 15 feet from a steel joist. The victim suffered head and wrist injuries.

The company has been charged with two violations – failure to ensure that it provided and maintained a safe workplace and that it failed to ensure that a fall arrest system provided to an employee was adequately secured to an anchorage point or a lifeline.

The first appearance is set for Monday, February 11 at Provincial Court in St. John’s.
