Public Advisory: Residents Asked to be Vigilant on Forest Access Roads

The general public is advised to be vigilant if travelling on forest access roads this weekend due to impending adverse weather. The start of the big game hunting season tomorrow (Saturday, September 14) means many residents will be using forest access roads to reach moose and caribou management areas throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

Tropical Storm Gabrielle is moving toward Atlantic Canada and is expected to reach the province over the weekend. Environment Canada advises Gabrielle will be primarily a rainfall event and has issued rainfall warnings for parts of the Northern Peninsula. Special weather statements are also in effect for southeastern Labrador, the Baie Verte Peninsula, and parts of the west coast.

The Provincial Government is actively monitoring Tropical Storm Gabrielle and suggests individuals and communities prepare for the possibility of flooding, power outages, and other potential negative impacts which could develop during or after the storm. More information on personal preparedness can be found at www.getprepared.ca
