Public Advisory: Provincial Government Lifts Fire Ban in Labrador

The outdoor fire ban for forest land in all regions of Labrador will end midnight tonight (Tuesday, July 23). Forestry officials with the Department of Natural Resources have determined current weather and forest conditions warrant lifting the ban.

There is no longer a restriction on open fires, campfires, the use of outdoor wood burning devices, fireworks, backyard fires including backyard fire pits and beach fires.

The burning of brush requires a permit to burn. Permits can be obtained through District Forest Offices. Contact numbers are available at www.gov.nl.ca/nr/department/contact/forestry/forestry.html.

The Department of Natural Resources encourages residents of Newfoundland and Labrador to be vigilant and exercise caution when in and around forested areas. To report a forest fire, call toll-free 1-866-709-FIRE (3473).
