Development Plan Amendment Approved for the South White Rose Extension
Earlier today, the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum
Board (C-NLOPB) announced approval of the development plan amendment for the
South White Rose Extension Tie-back project. This signals the growth
potential in the White Rose oilfield and the promise of additional economic
and employment opportunities for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
“Approval of the development plan amendment will enable Husky Energy and its
partners to move forward with the South White Rose Extension,” said the
Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Natural Resources. “We are pleased with
the continued interest from operators in expanding fields offshore. This
will help to support long-term growth and sustainability of the provincial
offshore industry.”
The White Rose oilfield is the most recent offshore area in the province to
be brought into production. Operated by Husky Energy, first oil was produced
in November 2005 through use of the SeaRose FPSO. North Amethyst was the
first satellite field development in the Canadian offshore and brought into
production in 2010. The province, through Nalcor Energy, has a five per cent
equity stake in the White Rose satellite fields.
The offshore petroleum industry is the largest contributor to the provincial GDP at 33 per cent with an oil production value of over $8 billion and royalty revenues of $2 billion in 2012.
