Public Advisory: Avalon Residents Cautioned About Fire Risk

The Department of Natural Resources is asking the general public to act responsibly when burning grass or brush.

The Avalon Peninsula is experiencing dry conditions and, as a result, the forest fire index is at medium to extreme levels. Under such conditions it is imperative that residents remain vigilant when burning grass or brush, and ensure they obtain a burning permit and follow the conditions outlined.

Caution on behalf of the general public can decrease the number of forest fires. The number to report a fire is toll-free 1-866-709-FIRE (3473).

For more information, please contact the District Forestry Office in your area. Contact numbers can be found at www.gov.nl.ca/nr/department/contact/forestry/forestry.html
