Call for Expressions of Interest Focused on Creating a Diverse Forest Industry

The Department of Natural Resources has issued a Call for Expressions of Interest to develop the timber resource in central Labrador.

“The Call for Expressions of Interest is looking for proponents interested in the existing timber in central Labrador as well as the additional timber made available through work associated with clearing of lands for the Muskrat Falls project,” said the Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Natural Resources and Minister Responsible for the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency. “Work associated with the development of Muskrat Falls will produce additional timber volume from 2012 to 2016, and provides opportunity to develop the timber resource and maximize value of the timber.”

The Call for Expressions of Interest stems from significant European interest for bio-energy products coupled with positive signs of growth in the US economy. Proposals which maximize the value of the forest resource will be considered.

All Expressions of Interest must be completed in accordance with set terms and conditions which are available on the department website at www.gov.nl.ca/nr/ . Deadline for submissions is 4:30 p.m. April 26, 2013.
