Responsible Investments to Strengthen Communities

$641,000 Invested in Capital Works Projects for the Northern Peninsula

The Provincial Government continues to support the development of infrastructure to benefit the people of rural Newfoundland and Labrador. As part of this ongoing support, $641,000 will be invested to fund paving and sewer work in the communities of Roddickton-Bide Arm, St. Anthony and St. Lunaire-Griquet.

“We continue to work with councils across the province to improve municipal infrastructure. Through this $641,000 investment we will be able to complete some very important projects in three communities on the Northern Peninsula. We continue to support rural communities and since 2006, over $426 million has been committed to upgrade municipal infrastructure in towns of less than 11,000 people”
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs

In Roddickton-Bide Arm, $295,000 will fund paving of local roads in the community. In St. Anthony, $250,000 will fund paving of a portion of West Street. For St. Lunaire-Griquet, $96,000 will support work to improve the sewer system in the town.

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes funding for the second year of a $130 million municipal capital works program. This investment is funding important infrastructure projects for towns and cities, and is delivering better services for families in areas such as water and waste water, recreation, road repair, and fire services across the province.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to supporting important social programs, strong communities and the health and well-being of children, families and seniors.
