Making Responsible Investments for Communities
$243,000 Invested in Capital Works Projects in District of St. Barbe
The Provincial Government is committed to providing clean and safe drinking water for residents. Recognizing this $243,000 will be invested to fund water-related projects, cost-shared with the communities of Hawke’s Bay, Port au Choix and Port Saunders.
“Providing clean and safe drinking water for residents is a priority
for our capital works infrastructure investments. This $243,000 investment
will improve water systems in three communities, and will make them better
places to live for families and children. We have clearly demonstrated our
commitment and in the last year alone $31 million has been invested in
drinking water-related projects including new facilities and upgrading of
water treatment infrastructure, distribution systems and feasibility
studies.”
- The Honourable Steve Kent, Minister of Municipal and
Intergovernmental Affairs
In Hawke’s Bay, $25,000 will fund a structural assessment of the town’s
water storage reservoir. For Port au Choix, $168,000 is being committed to
fund repairs to the existing water storage reservoir. In Port Saunders,
$50,000 will fund a study to investigate options to address water quantity
and low pressure issues in the town.
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes funding for the second
year of a $130 million municipal capital works program. This investment is
funding important infrastructure projects for towns and cities, and is
delivering better services for families in areas such as water and waste
water, recreation, road repair, and fire services across the province.
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to supporting important social programs, strong communities and the health and well-being of children, families and seniors.
