District of St. Barbe to Benefit from Capital Works Funding

The Provincial Government is investing $243,000 for water-related projects, cost-shared with the towns of Hawke’s Bay, Port au Choix and Port Saunders.

“This $243,000 investment will fund important drinking water projects, which will benefit the people of Hawke’s Bay, Port au Choix and Port Saunders,” said the Honourable Steve Kent, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs. “As a government, we will continue to support these types of initiatives to build better communities for our children, families and seniors.”

Funding for these projects is cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent of the funding and the towns of Hawke’s Bay, Port au Choix and Port Saunders covering the remaining 10 per cent.

In Hawke’s Bay, $25,000 will fund the replacement of water tower piping. For Port au Choix, $168,000 is being committed to fund upgrades to the existing water storage tank. In Port Saunders, $50,000 will fund a study to investigate options to address water quantity and low pressure issues in the town.

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes funding for the second year of a $130 million municipal capital works program. This investment is funding important infrastructure projects for towns and cities, and is delivering better services for families in areas such as water and waste water, recreation, road repair, and, fire services, across the province.
