$452,000 in Funding Announced for Bay of Islands Projects

Funding for water and sewer, recreation, road repairs and fire services will be made available to the towns of Cox’s Cove, Meadows and Mount Moriah through a $452,000 investment, cost-shared between the communities and the Provincial Government.

“This $452,000 investment in the areas of recreation, waste water, fire services and road work demonstrates our ongoing commitment to rural Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Steve Kent, Minister of Municipal and Intergovernmental Affairs. “We are committed to the development of infrastructure which supports and strengthens communities and enables them to meet the needs of families.”

Funding for these projects is cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent of the funding and the towns of Cox’s Cove, Meadows and Mount Moriah covering the remaining 10 per cent.

In Cox’s Cove $32,000 is being invested to conduct repairs on the BioGreen Wastewater Plant. Meadows will receive $200,000 to start construction on a new recreation facility, playground and ball field. Mount Moriah is receiving $70,000 for program and design work as part of the construction of a new fire response services building, along with an additional $150,000 for street improvement work.

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes funding for the second year of a $130 million municipal capital works program. This investment is funding important infrastructure projects for towns and cities, and is delivering better services for families in areas such as water and waste water, recreation, road repair, and fire services, across the province.
