$40,000 Provided for Water System Study in the Town of Elliston

A study on the water supply system in the Town of Elliston will be conducted through funding of $40,000 cost-shared between the Provincial Government and the town.

“Providing a clean, reliable source of water to residents is a commitment that this government takes seriously,” said Honouable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “Once this $40,000 study is completed we will be in a good position to look at how the water system can be enhanced for residents in the Town of Elliston.”

In recent years the water supply system in the town has deteriorated and has experienced significant loss of pressure and leakage. This project will involve a comprehensive study to identify issues and recommend corrective action to secure the system in the community.

“This study will provide the town with information and recommendations on improvements for the water system,” said Glen Little, MHA for Bonavista South. “This initiative will mean a great deal to residents of my district, and the work will give council a sense of next steps as they review their water distribution system.”

Funding for the project is cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent and the town of Elliston covering the remaining ten per cent.

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes funding for the second year of a $130 million municipal capital works program. This investment is funding important infrastructure projects for towns and cities, and is delivering better services for families in areas such as water and waste water, recreation, road repair, and fire services, across the province.
