Funding of $610,000 Announced in the Bellevue Area for Capital Works Projects

Providing basic services such as roads and water and sewer is a key priority for the Provincial Government to ensure the sustainability and viability of municipalities. As a result, $610,000 is being invested for water services and road work, cost-shared with the communities of Arnold’s Cove, Chance Cove and Swift Current.

“It is vital that we continue to work to modernize our basic infrastructure in order to provide towns with the services they require to live safely and comfortably,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “This investment of $610,000 will go a long way towards building stronger communities in the Bellevue area, and demonstrates the commitment of the Provincial Government to rural Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Funding for these projects is cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent and the communities of Arnold’s Cove, Chance Cove and Swift Current covering the remaining 10 per cent respectively.

“I am pleased to see this important investment by the Provincial Government in these critical projects for the Bellevue area,” said Calvin Peach, MHA for Bellevue. “This investment shows our continued support for the viability of municipalities, and demonstrates foresight from local councils in all three communities.”

Funding of $305,000 will be provided to the Town of Arnold’s Cove for road upgrades and the replacement of an aging water line. The Town of Chance Cove is receiving $185,000 for a new well to increase water capacity. In Swift Current, $120,000 is being provided for upgrades to the well system in the community.

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes funding for the second year of a $130 million municipal capital works program. This investment is funding important infrastructure projects for towns and cities, and is delivering better services for families in areas such as water and waste water, recreation, road repair, and fire services, across the province.
