Upgrades for Fortune Bay - Cape La Hune Through $524,000 Investment
The Provincial Government, recognizing the importance of sustaining communities in rural Newfoundland and Labrador, is investing $524,000 in the towns of Belleoram and St. Alban’s. The funding, which is cost-shared between the Provincial Government and the two towns will complete sewer system work in the communities.
“It is important that residents across Newfoundland and Labrador have adequate infrastructure, which is modern and meets the needs of growing communities,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “As a government, we will continue to invest in storm and sanitary sewer systems so that residents have access to the best services possible. This investment of $524,000 will fund much needed upgrades in both communities.”
In the Town of Belleoram, $229,000 is being provided for repairs to the storm sewer system. In St. Alban’s, $295,000 will fund the replacement of two sewage lift stations.
“Flooding is a concern for residents in Belleoram and I am pleased that government is providing funding to minimize the risk of this occurring in the future,” said Tracey Perry, MHA for Fortune Bay - Cape La Hune. “In addition, the replacement of lift stations in St. Alban’s will provide better services to the people for years to come.”
Funding for these projects is cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent and the Towns of Belleoram and St. Alban’s covering the remaining 10 per cent respectively.
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes funding for the second year of a $130 million municipal capital works program. This investment is funding important infrastructure projects for towns and cities, and is delivering better services for families in areas such as water and waste water, recreation, road repair, and fire services, across the province.
