$571,000 Announced for Water Projects in Burgeo-La Poile
The Provincial Government will invest $571,000 for multiple water works
projects in the Burgeo-La Poile area, cost-shared with local communities.
“We are committed to providing municipalities of the province with adequate
infrastructure for water treatment and drainage,” said the Honourable Kevin
O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “This investment of $571,000 will
improve access to water and sewer services for residents in Burgeo and
Channel-Port-aux-Basques.”
Funding of $145,000 will be provided to the Town of Burgeo for the
replacement of 250 metres of steel water main.
In the Town of Channel-Port-aux-Basques, three projects will be funded:
$170,000 is being allocated for sanitary and storm sewer upgrades; $212,000
will fund the completion of water treatment plant upgrades; and, $44,000
will fund engineering design work for the sewer system.
Funding for these projects is cost-shared between the Provincial Government
and the towns of Burgeo and Channel-Port-aux-Basques.
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes funding for the second
year of a $130 million municipal capital works program. This investment is
funding important infrastructure projects for towns and cities, and is
delivering better services for families in areas such as water and waste
water, recreation, road repair, and fire services, across the province.
