$301,000 in Road Upgrades Announced for the Town of Conche

Important roadwork is about to get underway through a cost-shared investment of $301,000 in municipal capital works funding for the Town of Conche.

“The Provincial Government continues to invest in the network of roads across Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Kevin O'Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “As part of our overall investment in the economy of rural communities, this $301,000 in funding will allow the town to undertake upgrading to improve road conditions for both residents and visitors, and will build upon a sense of pride in the community.”

This funding will provide the opportunity for the Town of Conche to recap a number of roads within the community with new asphalt. Funding for this project is cost-shared with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent of the funding and the Town of Conche covering the remaining 10 per cent.

Since 2008, the Provincial Government has invested over $650 million in municipal capital works projects which has resulted in improved municipal infrastructure across the province. When federal and municipal contributions are included the total investment is in excess of $1 billion.

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes funding for the second year of a $130 million municipal capital works program. This investment is funding important infrastructure projects for towns and cities, and is delivering better services for families in areas such as water and waste water, recreation, road repair, and fire services, across the province.
