Over $800,000 Committed for Infrastructure Upgrades in Cape St. Francis
The Provincial Government will upgrade infrastructure in the District of
Cape St. Francis through $800,000 in funding cost-shared with the towns of
Pouch Cove and Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove. The Honourable Kevin
O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs, made the announcement during an
event today, together with Kevin Parsons, MHA for Cape St. Francis, and town
officials.
“It is important for the Provincial Government to assist with funding for
upgrades to existing infrastructure,” said Minister O’Brien. “Work to
resurface roadways and replace culverts is a key priority area in many parts
of the province, and this $800,000 investment demonstrates our commitment in
this area, to the residents of Cape St. Francis.”
Funding for these projects is cost-shared with the Provincial Government
providing 90 per cent of the funding and the towns of Pouch Cove and Logy
Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove covering the remaining 10 per cent.
“The upgrading of these roads and culverts is very important to the people
in the area,” said MHA Parsons. “This is another example of the Provincial
Government’s commitment to ensuring that proper infrastructure is in place,
and I commend both town councils for their efforts on both projects to
date.”
In Pouch Cove, $400,000 is being invested in the paving and upgrading of six
local roads.
“I am pleased that the government is investing in this important
infrastructure for the people of Pouch Cove,” said Sarah Patten, Mayor of
Pouch Cove. “As the town continues to expand it is important that we are
able to provide good quality roads to continue to attract people to the
area.”
In Logy Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove, $420,000 is being invested to replace
six culverts in the town.
“This is a sound investment which will provide relief for residents of Logy
Bay-Middle Cove-Outer Cove,” said John Kennedy, Mayor of Logy Bay-Middle
Cove-Outer Cove. “As we have been experiencing more occurrences of flooding
across the province it is important that we act now in order to protect
residents and their property.”
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes funding for the second
year of a $130 million municipal capital works program. This investment is
funding important infrastructure projects for towns and cities, and is
delivering better services for families in areas such as water and waste
water, recreation, road repair, and fire services, across the province.
