Grand Bank to Receive $375,000 Water and Sewer Upgrade
The Provincial Government is committed to the maintenance of good local
infrastructure in towns and communities across the province. As a result of
this, $375,000 is being invested for water and sewer upgrades in the Town of
Grand Bank. The announcement was made August 7 in the town by the Honourable
Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs, together with the Honourable
Darin King, Minister of Justice and MHA for Grand Bank, and Darrell LaFosse,
Mayor of Grand Bank.
“Investment in infrastructure is a top priority for the Provincial
Government, and we have committed over $650 million in the last five years
for projects, particularly in rural parts of the province” said Minister
O’Brien. “Through this $375,000 commitment, we will work with the Town of
Grand Bank to complete some much needed wastewater upgrades which will
provide better services to residents and families in the community.”
The project will see water and sewer piping upgrades on Pleasant Street to
replace aging infrastructure. The curb and gutter will also be replaced and
new asphalt will be laid.
“This is an important announcement for the Town of Grand Bank, and I thank
council for their funding of this project along with the Provincial
Government,” said Minister King. “This project demonstrates government’s
commitment to invest in infrastructure development, and will benefit
residents in the area for many years.”
Funding for this project is cost-shared with the Provincial Government
providing 90 per cent and the Town of Grand Bank covering the remaining 10
ten per cent.
“I am so pleased to see the Provincial Government partnering with our town
on this important project,” said Mayor LaFosse. “Our council is committed to
continuous improvement of services for the residents of Grand Bank, and this
funding will allow us to grow and develop improved services for our
community.”
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes funding for the second
year of a $130 million municipal capital works program. This investment is
funding important infrastructure projects for towns and cities, and is
delivering better services for families in areas such as water and
wastewater, recreation, road repair, and fire services, across the province.
