$492,000 Announced for Road Upgrading and Paving in Burin

The Provincial Government, together with the Town of Burin, is committing a total of $492,000 for road work in the community. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs, the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education and MHA for Burin - Placentia West and Kevin Lundrigan, Mayor of Burin.

“This project is important for the Town of Burin and will see $492,000 committed to enhancing roadways within the community,” said Minister O’Brien. “We recognize that roads across the province require constant upkeep, and this government is committed to ensuring that we continue to support this work in communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Funding for this project is cost-shared, with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent and the Town of Burin covering the remaining ten per cent.

“The re-paving of these roads will provide safer driving conditions in the Town of Burin,” said Minister Jackman. “The Burin council is always striving to make this community a better place to live and raise a family. This kind of investment in roadways is important for both residents and visitors to the community who will benefit equally when travelling in the area.”

Roadwork will involve resurfacing for seven roads in the community and the project is expected to get underway in the coming months.

“This paving project represents a great partnership between the Provincial Government and the Town of Burin,” said Mayor Lundrigan. “These upgraded roadways will help make the town more appealing for residents and visitors, and will provide better services in our community for years to come.”

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes funding for the second year of a $130 million municipal capital works program. This investment is funding important infrastructure projects for towns and cities, and is delivering better services for families in areas such as water and waste water, recreation, road repair, and fire services, across the province.
