Glenwood Infrastructure to be Enhanced Through $713,000 Investment

The Provincial Government is investing $713,000, cost-shared with the Town of Glenwood to undertake street improvement work, and to complete the design phase of a new multiplex community building for the town.

“I am pleased to be able to make this announcement today and to contribute to ongoing development in the Town of Glenwood,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “This funding will support a number of projects including street improvements for Main Street, and design work for a new municipal building in the community. Municipal infrastructure development is a top priority of this government, and allows us to work with municipalities and other groups to support the growth of communities.”

Street improvements in the town will be made through $590,000 for pavement work on Main Street. In addition, $123,000 has been allocated for the design of a new multiplex community building. This facility will include space for a new town office, a community centre, a library and a new fire hall.

“The funding being provided by the Provincial Government will be of great benefit to the people of Glenwood,” said Daren Bursey, Mayor of Glenwood. “Repairs to Main Street will certainly allow residents better access within the community. In addition, funding for the design of our new town multiplex is exciting news indeed. We are looking forward to the successful completion of this phase of the project which we hope will then lead to the start of construction work in the near future.”

Funding for these projects is cost-shared with the Provincial Government providing 90 per cent and the Town of Glenwood covering the remaining 10 per cent.

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes funding for the second year of a $130 million municipal capital works program. This investment is funding important infrastructure projects for towns and cities, and is delivering better services for families in areas such as water and waste water, recreation, road repair, and fire services, across the province.
