Chair of Eastern Regional Service Board Appointed

The Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs, today announced that Ed Grant has been appointed Chairperson of the Eastern Regional Service Board, effective immediately.

“Mr. Grant spent nearly 15 years as a councillor in the City of Mount Pearl, and in particular was involved in the city’s Public Works and Engineering Committees,” said Minister O’Brien. “This experience along with his considerable work as a representative with Regional Fire Services and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities will be a tremendous asset to the board. I thank him for accepting this role and look forward to seeing the continued work of the Eastern Regional Service Board.”

The Eastern Regional Service Board was formed in October 2011, with a mandate to construct, acquire, maintain and operate solid waste disposal sites and solid waste management facilities and systems within the eastern region. The board also has the authority to charge user fees to municipalities, local service districts, unincorporated areas or other users within the region. The Eastern Regional Service Board has 21 members and represents communities from the Town of Clarenville east including Random Island to the east and Swift Current to the west.

Biography of Ed Grant

Ed Grant served as a councillor with the City of Mount Pearl from 1985 to 2009. During his terms on council he chaired or served as a member of every council committee.

He has acted as city representative for the Regional Fire Services, Regional Water Services and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

Mr. Grant graduated from Brother Rice High School and is a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers (FICB).

Mr. Grant held positions of Manager of Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce from 1976 to 1982 at locations in St. John’s, Mount Pearl, Fredericton and Clarenville. He is involved in various businesses including Valley Cab, Elizabeth Park Holding Ltd. and Town Square Ruby Line Ltd.
