March 10 Marks Beginning of Daylight Savings Time

Residents of Newfoundland and Labrador are reminded that Daylight Savings Time comes into effect this weekend. At 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 10, clocks should be moved ahead one hour.

“We are reminding residents of the province to move their clocks ahead by one hour as we move into Daylight Savings Time this coming Sunday,” said the Honourable Kevin O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “Our government took the progressive step this past summer to require working smoke alarms on every level and in each sleeping area of any home or cabin in Newfoundland and Labrador. Daylight Savings Time offers a great opportunity for each of us to ensure those smoke alarms, carbon monoxide monitors and fire extinguishers are working properly. This is also a good time to discuss emergency planning and fire escape routes with your family.”

Daylight Savings Time will remain in effect until 2:00 a.m. November 3, 2013, when the province will return to Newfoundland Standard Time.
