House of Assembly Passes Motion in Support of Police Task Force

A resolution to support the recently announced Task Force on Child Exploitation and Drugs was passed unanimously today in the House of Assembly.

“It is very timely that this resolution received unanimous support in the House of Assembly during National Police Week,” said the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Justice. “Strengthening police services in the province, while simultaneously enhancing cooperation between the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, will have a significant impact on the fight against crime in Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Through Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future, the Provincial Government is investing $1 million in the new task force which will consist of crime analysts, investigators, computer forensic specialists and other specialized members of the RNC and the RCMP.

“This provincial task force represents a new era of policing in the province,” said Minister King. “As crime evolves, so too must our ability to deal with it. The members of this team will work together from their own facility which will allow them to share their considerable experience and expertise. This will ultimately lead to safer communities in our province.”
