Investing in Planning to Strengthen Communities
Glovertown to Receive $24,000 to Support Town Development Plan
The Town of Glovertown will be in a better position to grow the town centre and surrounding economic infrastructure as the result of a $24,000 investment from the Provincial Government. The funding will support a detailed study to create a plan to outline the re-development of Glovertown’s town centre.
“A gateway to the Eastport Peninsula, Glovertown is a well known
destination for tourists and recreational boaters, as well as a service hub
for surrounding communities. I am pleased that with this $24,000 investment,
Glovertown will be able to move forward with their plan to optimize the town
centre in a strategic and sustainable manner with the long-term goal of
advancing economic activity and better serving residents.”
- The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Innovation, Business
and Rural Development
A detailed analysis will be completed to create a work plan which will be used by the town to outline the development of an effective and sustainable town centre that will integrate existing assets and stimulate the economy.
“This is an encouraging development for Glovertown and the town
centre. This government is committed to the growth and sustainability of
rural Newfoundland and Labrador and projects that plan for positive and
deliberate growth hold significant potential for economic progress in the
region.”
- Sandy Collins, MHA for Terra Nova
The long-term goal of the development plan is to retain and recruit successful businesses and attract further economic development to the area.
“Through the Town Centre Study, we feel that we can integrate and
improve the numerous assets within Glovertown. In partnership with the local
community, the study represents the first step towards creating an
attractive district for businesses, residents and visitors.”
- Doug Churchill, Mayor of Glovertown
Through sound fiscal management and responsible decisions, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is strengthening the business environment, encouraging the development of innovative industries and building a vibrant economy.
