Province Congratulates Global Vision Junior Team Canada Participants on Mission to China

Three students from Newfoundland and Labrador are on their way to China this week to learn more about global leadership opportunities as part of Global Vision Junior Team Canada’s 2013 mission. The Department of Innovation, Business and Rural Development has contributed $4,500 to support participation in the trade and development mission to Hong Kong, China and Singapore.

“Our government is committed to youth, their development and supporting their vital role in the province’s future,” said the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister of Innovation, Business and Rural Development. “We are pleased to support Newfoundland and Labrador’s Global Vision Junior Team Canada’s delegation and provide $4,500 to support their mission.”

Global Vision Junior Team Canada is a national organization that engages enterprising young Canadians through education and hands-on experience in leadership development. Kayla St. Croix (Bay Bulls), Amy Pollard (St. John’s), and Jacob White (St. John’s) will join 27 other young leaders from across Canada as a part of Junior Team Canada’s 2013 mission. During their mission, the team will meet with industry, government, community and youth leaders in Hong Kong, Southern China and Singapore to explore business opportunities and gather market intelligence on behalf of their Canadian partners. Newfoundland and Labrador’s delegation will also take time to examine rural broadband infrastructure in outlying areas of China, as well as examine how the volunteer sector operates.

“I congratulate the delegation members for their selection for this mission which will further expand their knowledge about other parts of the world,” said Minister Hutchings. “I look forward to hearing about the team’s work which will provide valuable experience and knowledge for these young leaders of our province.”

Ambassadors with the Junior Team Canada Program represent Canada on the national and international stage. The program is designed to create the next generation of Canadian leaders ready to work in the global market place.
