Provincial Government to Focus on Well-being of Children

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to ensuring the safety, security and well-being of children and youth throughout the province. This week in the House of Assembly, the Provincial Government will act upon this commitment by introducing and amending legislation which focuses on young Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

“Nothing is more important than the safety and security of our residents, particularly our children and youth. That is why we are taking important steps in the legislature to help enhance the safety and protection of our young people at home, at school and in their communities.”
- The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Justice and Government House Leader

The upcoming legislative agenda includes a progressive new act concerning adoptions, amendments to the Labour Standards Act to provide protection to parents of sick or missing children, as well as significant amendments to the Schools Act, 1997 in order to address bullying and aggressive behaviour in schools.

The Government of Newfoundland Labrador is committed to supporting important social programs, strong communities and the health and well-being of children, families and seniors.
