Provincial Government to Focus on Health Care and Communities in House of Assembly

This week in the House of Assembly, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador will continue to act upon its commitment to strengthening communities and improving the health and well-being of all residents through new and enhanced legislation.

“As a government, we are focusing on these important pieces of legislation in order to support healthy, vibrant and prosperous communities where our residents can live, work and raise families.”
- The Honourable Darin King, Minister of Justice and Government House Leader

The upcoming legislative calendar includes significant changes to municipal legislation in order to strengthen municipal governments. For example, amendments will update legislation to allow councils to appoint a youth representative and will also permit councillors to participate in meetings electronically. There will also be various amendments to health care legislation in order to further enhance the quality of care provided to residents throughout the province, including changes to the Pharmaceutical Services Act to ensure that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians can obtain generic drugs at fair and reasonable prices.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to supporting important social programs, strong communities and the health and well-being of children, families and seniors.
