Next Phase for New Regional Hospital in Corner Brook Announced with RFP
With functional space programming near completion for the new regional hospital in Corner Brook, the Provincial Government is moving to the next phase with the issue of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the development of a detailed construction design.
“The replacement of Western Memorial Regional Hospital is an exciting
endeavour for Western Newfoundland and the province’s health care system.
The plan to develop the new hospital utilizes leading edge practices in
hospital construction, performance data of optimally delivered programs and
services, as well as internationally-recognized expertise. The new
hospital’s layout, services, and overall functionality are all being
designed to complement the long-term demographics and needs of Western
Newfoundland. Upon its completion, the new hospital will be a flagship for
health care services.”
- The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community Services
The RFP will be issued in the coming days and brings together the
engineering, architectural design and construction planning expertise
required to finalize construction plans. The RFP calls for the development
of a construction package for the long-term care facility and a construction
package for the acute care hospital.
“The new state-of-the-art regional hospital in western Newfoundland is
the largest building construction project undertaken by the Provincial
Government since the Health Sciences Complex was constructed in the 1970s.
The scale and complexities of the overall project require a tremendous
amount of construction detailing and design before construction can
commence. This RFP will complete the construction design plans and it is
anticipated that construction will commence in 2015.”
- The Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister of Transportation and Works
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is committed to supporting important social programs, strong communities and the health and well-being of children, families and seniors.
