$467,000 Investment Enhances Care at Placentia and Whitbourne Health Facilities

The Placentia Health Centre and Dr. William H. Newhook Health Centre in Whitbourne will benefit from new health care equipment and infrastructure repairs and renovations through a Provincial Government investment of $467,000.

“Our government recognizes the importance of investing in health care facilities, such as the Placentia Health Centre and the Dr. William H. Newhook Health Centre, and how improvements to them lead to a stronger health care system overall,” said the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community Services. “These facilities provide essential health and long-term care services for individuals and families in this region, and our investment of $467,000 will allow for the continued delivery of quality care over the long term.”

The Placentia Health Centre will receive health care equipment and infrastructure repairs and renovations, including patient lifts, beds, stretchers, and a blood pressure monitor; as well as the replacement of flooring.

“The Placentia Health Centre and Dr. William H. Newhook Health Centre play major roles in the well-being of residents,” said the Honourable Felix Collins, Minister of Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs and MHA for Placentia - St. Mary’s. “This support for our health care facilities is much appreciated and will enhance the tremendous work carried out at these institutions.”

Funding announced today also includes $150,000 for the replacement of a generator at the Dr. William H. Newhook Health Centre in Whitbourne.

“This investment demonstrates the Provincial Government’s ongoing commitment to providing high quality care in rural communities, such as Whitbourne and Placentia,” said Vickie Kaminski, President and CEO of Eastern Health. “With this funding, we are able to enhance the infrastructure and equipment at the Placentia Health Centre and the Dr. William H. Newhook Health Centre and, in turn, improve the overall patient experience.”

Since 2004, the Provincial Government has invested over $1.2 billion in health care capital equipment and infrastructure repairs and renovations, including almost $4.5 million in the Placentia and Whitbourne region.
