Health Centres in New-Wes-Valley to Benefit from $399,000 for Upgrades
The Brookfield Health Centre and Bonnews Lodge in New-Wes-Valley will
receive upgrades to increase patient safety through an investment of
$399,000 provided by the Provincial Government.
“Our government is responsible for providing essential health care services
to a large number of facilities throughout our geographically-diverse
province,” said the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and
Community Services. “Each and every one of these health care centres plays
an important role in the communities they serve. Investing $399,000 into the
Brookfield Health Centre and Bonnews Lodge will help maintain the essential
and important care provided to the residents of the New-Wes-Valley region.”
The Brookfield Health Centre is being provided $351,000 to install new
emergency lighting in the facility, replace flooring in the trauma and
continuing care nursing area and to purchase new kitchen equipment.
“Enhancements to our health care facilities are always welcomed news,” said
Eli Cross, MHA for Bonavista North. “These upgrades will provide a safer
environment for staff and patients receiving service in our trauma area at
the Brookfield Health Centre. New flooring will be a welcomed addition to
Bonnews as well. These upgrades represent an ongoing commitment to health
care from government.”
The Bonnews Lodge, a 45 bed long-term care facility, will receive $48,000
for the replacement of flooring.
"Investments such as these are very important to providing quality health
services and ensuring patient safety in the rural areas of our region," said
Rosemarie Goodyear, Interim President and CEO of Central Health. "We are
very pleased to continue to partner with the Provincial Government to
realize improved quality and patient safety at the Brookfield Health Centre
and Bonnews Lodge."
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes a total investment of
$226 million in capital infrastructure, which allocates $165.8 million for
continuing construction and redevelopment; $40.2 million for new equipment;
and, $20 million for repairs and renovations. Since 2004, over $4.4 million
has been provided for equipment, repairs and renovations to health
facilities in the New-Wes-Valley region.
