Upgrades to Bonavista Health Facilities Strengthen Patient Care
A Provincial Government investment of approximately $405,000 will support
enhanced health and long-term care services offered at the Bonavista
Peninsula Health Centre and Golden Heights Manor.
“As the hub for health care on the Bonavista Peninsula, our investment of
over $400,000 will go a long way to support the role these facilities play
in providing acute, emergency, diagnostic as well as long-term care services
for residents living in the region,” said the Honourable Susan Sullivan,
Minister of Health and Community Services. “Our government has made great
strides in strengthening our provincial health care system, and we will
continue to invest in infrastructure and equipment, both of which are
essential in the delivery of quality health care.”
The Bonavista Peninsula Health Centre will receive funding for repairs and
renovations, including fire sprinkler system upgrades, as well as the
continued installation of a new domestic water distribution system. In
addition, Golden Heights Manor, a long-term care facility, will receive fire
alarm system upgrades and new patient lifts to transfer patients.
"I am extremely pleased with this announcement as this funding is very good
news for the patients and staff of health care facilities in Bonavista,”
said Glen Little, MHA for Bonavista South. “Providing access to quality
health care services throughout the province is a significant priority for
the Provincial Government, and today’s announcement demonstrates the
continued commitment to invest in rural Newfoundland and Labrador."
Minister Sullivan also provided an update today on the status of
construction of the new Bonavista Protective Community Residence, and
announced $200,000 for furnishings and equipment for the facility. This
protective care residence is designed to meet the unique needs of
individuals with dementia, and will include an onsite residential style
kitchen, dining facilities, lounge and recreation area, and a garden.
Construction of the residence is approximately 70 per cent complete and
occupancy is expected to take place in winter 2014.
“We sincerely appreciate the Provincial Government’s substantial investment
in essential health and long-term care services for the patients of the
Bonavista Peninsula Health Centre and residents of Golden Heights Manor,”
said Vickie Kaminski, President and CEO of Eastern Health. “These
infrastructure and equipment upgrades align closely with Eastern Health’s
strategic priorities of quality and safety, as they enhance our facilities’
physical environments, as well as the care we provide to our patients and
residents.”
The Provincial Government has invested over $1.2 billion in health care
capital equipment and infrastructure repairs and renovations, including
almost $3.7 million in the Bonavista region since 2004.
