New Western Bay Health Clinic Officially Opened

A new medical clinic in Western Bay was officially opened today by the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community Services. The new facility was made possible by a Provincial Government investment of $360,000.

“Today’s official opening is positive for the people and families of Western Bay and surrounding communities,” said Minister Sullivan. “Through our investment of $360,000, this new facility will provide medical personnel with access to modern health care equipment and infrastructure, which will result in high-quality medical treatment and improved patient care for residents.”

Minister Sullivan was joined at the official opening by the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services and MHA for Trinity-Bay de Verde; and, Vickie Kaminski, President and CEO, Eastern Health.

“The new Western Bay Clinic is a significant step forward in providing quality care to residents in this area and is greatly appreciated by those who avail of it,” said Minister Johnson. “The new and improved clinic is a wonderful addition to the North Shore area, and many residents have commented on how pleased they are with the Provincial Government’s investment in this facility.”

The Western Bay Clinic, located in a renovated building next to the former clinic, consists of a family physician’s office, staffed by a full-time physician, space for patient reception and waiting, and patient examination rooms.

“This new clinic provides important services to the people of Western Bay and surrounding communities,” said Ms. Kaminski. “We are encouraged by the Provincial Government’s ongoing investments in health care in the region as we continue to provide quality and accessible care to our patients, clients and residents.”

Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future includes an investment of $226 million for health care infrastructure, including almost $166 million for continuing construction and redevelopment; over $40 million for new equipment; and, $20 million for repairs and renovations. This brings the total Provincial Government health care infrastructure investment to over $1.2 billion since 2004.
