Health Care Investments Totalling More than $6 Million Announced in Grand Falls-Windsor
An investment in excess of $6 million for repairs, renovations, and new
equipment at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre and Carmelite
House will help ensure residents have access to high quality health
facilities.
“Grand Falls-Windsor is a hub for the central region and services the health
care needs of a wide geographic region,” said the Honourable Susan Sullivan,
Minister of Health and Community Services. “Today’s announcement of over $6
million is not just an investment in Grand Falls-Windsor but in the
residents and families of the central region. It is also an investment that
builds on the $38 million that has been spent on improvements and upgrades
at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre and Carmelite House since
2004.”
The investment will support the addition of 21 new patient beds at Carmelite
House, as well as a variety of repairs, renovations, and new equipment at
the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, including:
- Upgrades to the distribution power systems;
- New diagnostic picture archiving and communication system monitors; and,
- A new operating room table for urology procedures.
“Funding for health care equipment and infrastructure upgrades in the
central region is always greatly appreciated,” said Ray Hunter, MHA for
Grand Falls-Windsor-Green Bay South. “This investment in the Central
Newfoundland Regional Health Centre and Carmelite House is another example
of the Provincial Government’s commitment to health care in rural
Newfoundland and Labrador.”
Approximately $1.8 million is also allocated for the continued development
of a new space for dialysis treatments. Upon completion of the project, the
dedicated dialysis space will house 15 dialysis machines, an addition of
four machines, which will increase patient capacity in the region.
“Today’s announcement for equipment, repairs and renovations for Central
Newfoundland Regional Health Centre is a significant investment in health
care in the central region,” said Rosemarie Goodyear, Interim President and
CEO of Central Health. “We are pleased to partner with the Provincial
Government in our common goal to provide quality programs and services to
the residents of this region.”
Further to these investments, Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future
allocated $11.5 million for the continued development of new operating rooms
at the health centre and $4 million for the continued construction of the
treatment centre for youth with addictions in Grand Falls-Windsor, which is
scheduled to open in winter 2014. The budget also included $1.2 million to
expand the Provincial Colon Cancer Screening Program into the region.
