Health Centre in Botwood Enhanced with Health Care Investments

Over $400,000 is being utilized through Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future, for new equipment and infrastructure upgrades at the Dr. H. Twomey Health Centre in Botwood.

“To help support our health care professionals and the people they serve, it is our government’s responsibility to provide them with the necessary infrastructure and equipment to do their jobs,” said the Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minister of Health and Community Services. “The health centre in Botwood is a core piece of the community providing care to people ranging from minor to emergency services, palliative and long-term care, and rehabilitation. Investing over $400,000 in this facility is an investment in every patient that walks through its doors.”

The health centre is receiving $144,500 in new equipment that includes 20 new patient beds, food preparation equipment and patient furniture.

“The Dr. H. Twomey Health Centre in Botwood provides very important services to the people in Exploits area,” said Clayton Forsey, MHA for Exploits. “The continued investment by our government will help improve services at this facility and is certainly welcomed by our residents.”

An additional $260,000 will be utilized within the facility to continue upgrades to the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning unit (HVAC). HVAC units are used to help maintain good indoor air quality and temperature through the use of a ventilation and filtration system.

“This health centre provides important, quality health services to the people of this area,” said Rosemarie Goodyear, Interim President and CEO of Central Health. “Through the upgrades and equipment announced for this facility today, including the provision of food preparation equipment and patient furniture, we are supporting patient safety and access to quality services for the residents of Botwood and area.”

Budget 2013 includes a total investment of $226 million in capital infrastructure, which includes $165.8 million for continuing construction and redevelopment; $40.2 million for new equipment; and, $20 million for repairs and renovations. Since 2004, nearly $4 million has been invested in the Dr. H. Twomey Health Centre in Botwood to provide and replace equipment and upgrade the facility’s infrastructure.
