Nearly $380,000 to Support Health Care Services on Baie Verte Peninsula
Health care centres in Springdale and Baie Verte are benefiting from
approximately $380,000 in funding to improve patient care and upgrade
infrastructure. The Honourable Susan Sullivan, Minster of Health and
Community Services, was joined by Kevin Pollard, MHA for Baie
Verte-Springdale, and Rosemarie Goodyear, Interim President and CEO of
Central Health, for today’s announcement.
“Our province of over 500,000 people is serviced by 15 hospitals, 22
community health centres, 114 community clinics, and 20 long-term care
facilities,” said Minister Sullivan. “Each of these pieces of health
infrastructure plays an important role in the health of our residents and
their communities. Our government places great importance on ensuring that
we provide the necessary tools and facilities to meet the needs of our
patients and their families. Investing nearly $380,000 in this region will
help support this commitment.”
The Green Bay Health Centre in Springdale will receive $24,000 for new
patient bedside chairs, patient beds, and kitchen equipment. Additionally,
the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre will benefit from $50,900 for 10 new
patient beds, as well as 10 new over-bed patient tables.
“Investments in equipment and facilities are vital to quality health care,”
said MHA Pollard. “I welcome the Provincial Government's continued support
with many thanks. Residents will be so pleased to avail of these new
pieces of infrastructure that enhance the quality of care for them.”
An investment of $305,000 in the Valley Vista Seniors Home in Springdale
will be used to purchase 23 new patient beds and to replace the hot and cold
water lines throughout the facility.
"These investments in medical equipment and infrastructure for the
Springdale and Baie Verte areas support our goal to provide quality programs
and services to the citizens of central region," said Ms. Goodyear.
"We are pleased to partner with the Provincial Government to enhance the
provision of quality health care for the people of Springdale and Baie Verte
areas."
Budget 2013: A Sound Plan, A Secure Future allocated $100,000 for the
continued planning of the new Green Bay Health Centre. In addition, Minister
Sullivan announced today that a tender would be released in the coming weeks
to clear the land for the new health centre. This will be the first step in
the development and construction phase of the project.
Since 2004, the Provincial Government has invested over $1.2 billion in
health care capital equipment and infrastructure repairs and renovations
including $226 million through Budget 2013. Over the past 10 years
approximately $8.8 million has been allocated for equipment, repairs and
renovations to health centres in Baie Verte and Springdale.
