Investments in Energy Efficiency Within the Processing Sector Support a Vibrant Economy
Barry Group to Pursue Energy Audit with $10,800 in Provincial Government Support
Barry Group Incorporated will receive $10,800 through the Provincial Government’s Fisheries Technology and New Opportunities Program to ensure new equipment and renovations at its shrimp plant in Anchor Point are configured to achieve energy efficiency.
“Through the Fisheries Technology and New Opportunities Program, the
Provincial Government is continuously supporting innovation and best
practices in every facet of the provincial fishery. Our $10,000 investment
to help Barry Group International achieve greater energy efficiency at its
upgraded Anchor Point plant is significant, as energy use comprises 15 per
cent of direct processing costs at most seafood plants.”
- The Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minster of Fisheries and Aquaculture
Barry Group Incorporated has made significant investments this year to carry out renovations and install new cooking, sorting, chilling, and grading equipment at the processing facility. The company will complement these enhancements with an energy audit led by a mechanical and refrigeration engineering consultant to determine how to configure renovations and equipment to achieve the best use of energy at the facility.
“Barry Group Incorporated has made significant improvements at our Anchor
Point facility, and our efforts to reduce energy costs will help us gain
faster and greater returns on that investment, which in turn benefits our
staff and the community. I thank the Provincial Government for its support,
and look forward to making our facility even more competitive.”
- William Barry, CEO, Barry Group Incorporated
Through sound fiscal management and responsible decisions, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is strengthening the business environment, encouraging the development of innovative industries, and building a vibrant economy.
