CUPE Ratifies Collective Agreements With Provincial Government

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), representing approximately 4,300 employees, has ratified six of seven collective agreements with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The ratification vote for one group, the Provincial Information and Library Resources Board, is expected to be finalized in early December. The agreements share the same framework as that reached with the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees, and the Association of Allied Health Professionals.

Through sound fiscal management and responsible decisions, the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is strengthening the business environment, encouraging the development of innovative industries and building a vibrant economy.

QUICK FACTS

• CUPE has ratified four-year collective agreements securing benefits for approximately 4,300 public employees in Newfoundland and Labrador.
• The agreements include a five per cent general economic increase over the term of the agreement, and a pro-rated signing bonus of $1,400 in year two.
• A $1.65 per hour market added for employees of various trades, substantial increases to shift differentials, and more than $10 per shift increase to standby pay are included in the agreement.
