Investment Opportunities in Offshore and Mining to be Discussed in China
Promoting trade and highlighting investment attraction opportunities in the Newfoundland and Labrador offshore and mining industries will be the focus as the Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, leads a trade mission to China over the coming week.
“China is a global leader in the fields of oil and gas and mining,” said Premier Dunderdale. “Our delegation will have the opportunity over the course of the next week to meet with the Chinese government and some of the largest companies in the world to showcase our abundant resources and to profile significant opportunities for investment in Newfoundland and Labrador. Responsible resource development is vital to the future growth of our province and will ensure long-term economic development.”
In Beijing, the Premier and other delegates, including the Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Natural Resources, are meeting with the Chinese National Offshore Oil Company and the Sinopec Group, both petroleum companies, and Hebei Iron and Steel.
“Our discussions with petroleum companies will include Nalcor representatives and will focus on the potential for Chinese investment in the Newfoundland and Labrador offshore, particularly new frontier basins,” said Minister Marshall. “With Hebei and other mining representatives, we will speak about the tremendous potential in investing in mining resources in Newfoundland and Labrador.”
The Newfoundland and Labrador delegation will be in China until June 28 and in addition to meetings focused on offshore and mining opportunities, meetings will be held throughout the week on various topics including those related to the sealing industry, post-secondary education, and strengthening economic ties with China.
