Media Advisory: Premier to Host Labrador Resource Investment Roundtable

The Honourable Kathy Dunderdale, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will join the Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Natural Resources, and the Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister Responsible for Labrador Affairs, in hosting the Labrador Resource Investment Roundtable for mining industry leaders tomorrow (Friday, June 14) in Wabush.

“Our government recognizes the mining opportunities available in Labrador, and the important role Labrador will play in ensuring the continued growth and prosperity of our province’s natural resource future,” said Premier Dunderdale. “I look forward to engaging in discussions about Labrador’s investment potential, as well as the plans to further strengthen the economic future for the region and all Labradorians.”

The Labrador Resource Investment Roundtable is designed to facilitate discussion on the overall investment climate for Labrador mining and the importance of foreign investment in projects in the region. Industry stakeholders scheduled to participate in the roundtable discussion include; the Iron Ore Company of Canada, Cliffs Natural Resources, Labrador Iron Mines, Tata Steel Minerals Canada, New Milennium, Alderon and Century Iron. The goal of the closed session is to help identify government’s strategic priorities in unlocking Labrador’s mining sector growth potential.

“Next week, I will have the privilege of leading a delegation from this province on a trade mission to China and this roundtable will offer important insight in advance of the trade mission,” added Premier Dunderdale. “Our mission to China will help secure important investment partners for the incredible mining opportunities on the horizon in Labrador. We will discuss those opportunities and potential for partnerships at tomorrow’s roundtable.”

Premier Dunderdale, Minister Marshall and Minister McGrath will be available to the media following the conclusion of the closed roundtable at 2:30 p.m. in the main floor boardroom, Wabush Hotel.
