Call Issued for Applications for Grants to Youth Organizations

To support the important work of youth-based organizations in Newfoundland and Labrador, today the Provincial Government launched the 2013 call for applications for Grants to Youth Organizations.

“Throughout Newfoundland and Labrador youth-based organizations provide quality learning opportunities and experiences for our young people,” said the Honourable Keith Hutchings, Minister Responsible for the Office of Public Engagement. “This funding will support organizations in creating environments for our youth to grow and excel. I look forward to supporting the many exciting, inspiring and innovative projects that will contribute to the development of the next generation of community leaders.”

There are two types of grants available: special project grants that provide funding for the provision of a specific service or event; and program grants which make a contribution to support the development/delivery of new or existing organizational programs. Regardless of type, applications will be assessed based on a number of criteria including purpose and structure of program or activity, the degree to which the effort will effectively engage youth, and the likelihood that an initiative will address a gap in a community service.

“Youth engagement is a top priority for this administration,” said Minister Hutchings. “Building on the accomplishments of the Youth Retention and Attraction Strategy, and the synergies created through the formation of the Office of Public Engagement, we will continue to support the development of new activities and programs to connect with and directly engage youth. We will achieve this by working collaboratively with all our community partners and stakeholders, including our youth.”
