Tentative Agreement Reached with Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association

The Honourable Jerome Kennedy, Minister of Finance, Minister Responsible for the Human Resource Secretariat, and President of Treasury Board, today announced that the Provincial Government has reached a tentative agreement with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association (RNCA).

“I am pleased that the Provincial Government has successfully secured a tentative agreement with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association,” said Minister Kennedy. “Negotiations between the two parties have resulted in a mutually-beneficial agreement. This tentative agreement is the first during this round of negotiations with public sector employees. Discussions with other unions are continuing and I look forward to the successful conclusion of these negotiations.”

The RNCA will be presenting the tentative agreement to its members for ratification in the coming weeks.

“Collective bargaining during periods of austerity is always difficult,” said Tim Buckle, President of the RNCA. “However we are pleased that we have been able to craft a tentative agreement that is innovative and progressive which we have recommended our members to accept.”

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association represents more than 380 non-commissioned ranks of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.

“The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary plays a critical role across the province in ensuring that our communities are safe for residents,” said the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Justice. “The fact that they have reached a tentative agreement with the Provincial Government is great news indeed and it means that members can continue to focus on providing top notch policing services throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.”
